It's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Day 6 of 20 Days of Christmas

Do you remember those A Very Special Christmas records? Just the fact that the records earned $100 million for charity makes them cool, but they also have some great cover songs on them.

Yours truly bought a copy of the first in the series at the Record Garden Annex in an effort to complete my U2 collection. I'm sure others have purchased it in order to complete their Run DMC, Madonna, or Springsteen collections. Hopefully no one has bought it to complete their Bryan Adams collection. [Check out the track listing here. The heft of the contributing artists is impressive.] I have the original version of the album that includes a Bon Jovi track entitled "Back Door Santa." (This song is deserving of it's very own blog entry, but I feel like that would by best done by Ryan's coworker, Katie.) Do yourself a favor and go be amused by it here.

The U2 cover version of "It's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" was recorded live during a sound check on the Joshua Tree tour. You can definitely hear the Phil Spector authorship.

As a U2 junkie, I really love the wink Adam gives Bono at ~1:56 in this video. As a person who wishes she could sing, I wonder how Bono can sing such high, open notes while doubled over. (Note that some of Bono's moves here are recognizable as precursors to Bono's Achtung, Baby repertoire of characters/moves.)

This song is one of the few danceable Christmas songs I know. Enjoy!
